First of all, Let me clear you that “Dengue is not a Disease“.

For easy understanding i will explain about Dengue in short Question and Answer format so that the explanation would be precise leaving unnecessary information.

What is Dengue?

Dengue is a Fever or we can say a Hemorrhagic Fever caused by a Virus which is transmitted into human body through a bite of mosquito. So we can also term Dengue as “Viral Fever“.

A little history of Dengue:

Do you know that Dengue is a global problem since Second World War and it is common in more than 110 countries of the world. Every year 50 to 538 millions of people were infected with Dengue virus and among them 10,000 to 20,000 people will die due to improper management of Dengue.

 A little info on Dengue Virus:

Dengue Virus is short-coded as DENV. It is a RNA virus belonging to family of “Flaviviridae” and genus of “Flavivirus“. This virus is transmitted through Arthropods (Mosquitoes or Licks) thus it comes under “Arboviruses“. This virus has five different type of structures; infection with one type gives life long immunity to that type but short term immunity for other types. Thus there is probability of recurrence of Dengue fever with other structure of Dengue virus.

Mosquitoes…? Which mosquitoes are carriers of Dengue Virus?

Yes, you heard right, bites of mosquitoes are the reasons for Dengue fever. Dengue Virus is transmitted through female mosquitoes belonging to the species of “Aedes“. Most probably the cases of transmission are more with Aedes Aegypti and Aedes Albopictus.

Is Dengue a Life-Threatening Fever?

Yes, but not in all cases. Dengue fever show its heavy impact on Immuno-compromised persons and in those persons who left un-diagnosed and untreated. In most cases, people would recover from Dengue fever very soon upon successful Dengue treatment and Management. So, please don’t worry.

Is Dengue Symptomatic or Asymptomatic?

In most cases, Dengue is Asymptomatic (80%) i.e., the person suffering from Dengue fever won’t show any symptoms. This doesn’t mean that there would be no symptoms, obviously there were, but it depends on stamina or we can say immunity of that person.
